Win George at Asda vouchers for World Breastfeeding Week

Facebooktwittergoogle_plusredditpinterestlinkedintumblrmail

To celebrate World Breastfeeding Week (1st-8th August, 2012), MilkChic has teamed up with lots of breastfeeding friendly retailers to give nursing mums a treat. Today, it’s the turn of George at Asda, who are giving away a £50 voucher to one lucky mum!

George at AsdaSince pregnancy, I’ve got a bit more adventurous with fashion. Where previously I was a dress for your shape kinda girl (in my case, empire line / 50s styles… anything that would make my boobs seem less of a liability), now I’m more likely to try new things. Getting dressed used to be a lot easier when I was certain what worked, but it’s a lot more fun now I’m not ruling out shapes on sight. I bought my first ever pair of skinny jeans in Asda when small one was a few months old and they stock loads of breastfeeding-friendly styles at affordable prices, so you can experiment with new looks without breaking the bank.

*Word to the wise: If you’re trying to budget, close your eyes as you go past the kids section. I seem unable to walk by without picking up something.

Here are my picks of the current range… Gorgeous prints in classic dress shapes:

Animal Print Cotton Summer Dress, £12
Button front for breastfeeding access

Floral Print Shirt Dress, £20
Shirt dresses are brilliant for breastfeeding access, and this is just gorgeous!

Moda Printed Jersey Dress, £16
The crossover neckline will stretch for breastfeeding access.

Funky flat shoes:

Bird Print Canvas Shoes, £8

Aztec Print Canvas Shoes, £8

Patent Contrast Ballet Shoes, £10

Something to keep in the baby bag for when the weather isn’t “quite” as summery as you’d hoped:

This Crown Print Pac a Poncho is a good shape for breastfeeding in – wear with anything underneath and just lift up to feed.

(Other designs are also available)

And finally, some breastfeeding friendly nightwear to curl up in at the end of the day:

Floral Print Jumpsuit, £10
Button front for breastfeeding access

Ruffle Trim Pyjama Top, £6
Button placket will stretch for nursing access. I’d wear this with the Animal Print Pyjama Bottoms, £6

AW11 Fashion Trends for Breastfeeding Mums

Facebooktwittergoogle_plusredditpinterestlinkedintumblrmail

As Autumn officially began last Friday, I thought it was high time I pulled together a post on this season’s trends. I’ve been thinking about them for weeks but somehow getting everything together in one post always gives me writer’s block.

Colour is still big news for Autumn Winter with colour blocking and statement prints ongoing trends. Richer jewel tones are starting to take over from the more neon brights, and are gorgeously glam in luxurious fabrics for the winter.

Shop breastfeeding friendly jewel colours and brights at MilkChic.

Jewel Colours
Elle Macpherson, House of Fraser, Oasis, Asos

1. Belted Sleeveless Jumpsuit, £50; 2. Purple satin wrap blouse, £45; 3. Belted Crepe Dress, £24.99; 4. Side Wrap Top, £38; 5. Dandy Dot Blouse, £35; 6. CLOSET V Neck Zip Front Dress, £42; 7. Miso Zip Front Dress, £19.99; 8. ASOS Wrap Dress With Bow Detail, £40; 9. Women’s Planet Red drape blouse, £79; 10. Elle Macpherson Intimates Fly Butterfly Fly – Maternity Nursing Bra, £39

Go Wild in animal prints. They’ve been creeping in for months now and this time it’s not just leopard print. Snake prints, mock croc and even zebra prints are all right on trend. If you’re not sure about head to toe zoo chic, opt for a less obvious colourised print or accessorise with animal print shoes or bags.

Oscar De La Renta, BB Dakota, Labour Of Love

1. Sophie Gray dogtooth Printed Wrap Dress, £40; 2. LABOUR OF LOVE Tweed waisted dress, £112; 3. Women’s Linea Weekend Tweed cape, £84; 4. BB Dakota Calhoun Plaid Hooded Poncho, £87.19

Vintage looks are influenced by 1940s silhouettes and 1970s styles, which continue to dominate. Folk-inspired looks work well for daytime, and strong colours combined with ladylike silhouettes are a winner by night. For a simple, breastfeeding friendly look, combine elegant palazzo pants with a button down blouse.

Vintage Style
Asos, Diane von Furstenberg, Oasis, Oasis

 1. ASOS 70s Floppy Felt Hat, £20; 2. Soft Palazzo Trousers, £35; 3. Diane von Furstenberg Solenn Wrap Gown, £349.78; 4. Floral Pussy Bow Blouse, £42; 5. Red oriental sleeved dress, £39; 6. Jacqueline Dress, £70; 7. Clover Canyon Long Sleeve Maxi Shirtdress, £169.69; 8. Teatro Long Sleeve Maxi Dress, £59; 9. Belted Jumpsuit, £75

Mod is back again this winter. Shift dresses and peter pan collars are all over the place, but sadly it’s a hard trend to shop for a breastfeeding mum – simple silhouettes and high necks rarely signal good feeding access. I’ve found a few that work, and will keep looking!
