Autumn Wrap Dresses for Breastfeeding Mums

People Tree “Anya” Dress

The crossover shape of a wrap dress is great for breastfeeding. A yummy mummy staple, even the non-stretch versions usually have enough give to pull down easily for nursing and they work equally well for day or evening.

In fact, as so many of you have requested them, I have just added even more wrap dresses to MilkChic. Here are my tips for picking the best ones for you:

If you are pear shaped:
Look for a-line of full skirted options that skim the hips. Wrap dresses drape easily over your lower body and with detail at the neck, can really balance out your shape.
If you are apple shaped:
Wrap dresses are flattering as the fit over the bust. Empire line versions can be flattering, with a belt that ties below the bust instead of at the waistline. Try tying at the side rather than the back to give a focus away from your stomach.
If you are an hourglass:
Make sure you pick a dress where the tie falls on your natural waistline. A wrap dress can really emphasis a narrow waist.
If you are top heavy:
If your nursing cleavage has left you a little unbalanced (sadly my hips are still winning that war…), go a for a dress which fit well over the boobs and skims the hips. Avoid tighter skirted versions as these will just make you look more Barbie-like!
Whatever shape you are, consider buying a size bigger than you would normally choose. Wrap dresses nearly always look better with a bit more fabric, and you can use the waist ties to fit it neatly to your shape.
If you want a bit of extra coverage while feeding, wear with a nursing vest underneath.
